Cushing's Disease - Awaiting a BIPSS Test - Drug Shortage
Wed, 07-25-2012 - 4:03pm

I was diagnosed with Cushing's Disease in Feb 2012. However, I have been experiencing symptoms for over three years.  I had my first surgery in May 2012 and I have recently found out that I will need to have a second surgery done.

They are 99% sure that there is still a tumor in my pituitary gland. I am currently awaiting further testing...one in particular is fairly invasive test called Petrosal Sinus Sampling (BIPSS).

Apparently there is a nationwide shortage of this drug (Acthrel) that they use to stimulate the ACTH production during the test.

Is anyone else awaiting this test? Have you heard anything about the shortage?

I just really want to get this show on the road and have the testing done so I can schedule my next surgery and move on with my life! I feel like I am on hold!
