High blood pressure?

How do you know if you have high blood pressure without going to the doctor to have it checked out? I've been experiencing some symptoms like headache, fatique, and occasional pounding in my ears and I looked them up and it seems like it could be just about every illness, disease or syndrome. I don't have insurance so I can't afford to go to the doctor if it isn't something serious. Does anyone here have high blood pressure and what were your symptoms? Did you have to go to the doctor to get it diagnosed? Did anyone think they had high blood pressure and go to the doctor and it turned out to be something else? What was it? Thanks for your help.

Hi there; First I wanted to ask you how old are you and are you female or male?? Now you cannot fool around with high blood pressure and you cannot diagnose yourself.. I walked around with high blood pressure because I had no money for I dont know how long.. Last year I couldnt take the sick feeling anymore.. I had shortness of breath, fatique and couldnt walk up stairs without being out of breath.. I was also about 30lbs. overweight and although I am a vegeterian my diet was really bad.. Too much sodium in it and high fructose corn syrup and sugar.. I didnt have headaches but I had wheezing that felt like asthma but turned out it was high blood pressure.. I first check my bp in the drugstore and it was pretty high so I got scared and found a clinic where I live and for 15.00 a visit I was treated.. they went according to my income and they cant turn anyone away. You could check your bp in a drugstore but I would get in to see a doctor or emergency room asap.. You cant mess with that stuff.. I am now on medication but I lost weight and I started walking and changed my diet.. Only bad thing is that the doctors gave me some meds that I wish I hadnt taken (long story) ..but my pressure needed to come down... If I could turn back the clock I would try alternative treatments but for me I have to ask a doctor now..but I cant still walk, eat right , drink water and meditate and do accupressure and a bunch of things on my own.. You can go to ER and tell them you have no insurance and no money.. Are you near any walk in clinics?? They dont cost that much and it would be worth it to check it out.. Are you eligible for state aid??? I would check into that also.. Please get this checked.. It could be nothing or something you have no idea..

Some pharmacies in regular stores have machines to check blood pressure so you could check there and get an initial reading.  You can also buy a blood pressure kit and take yours at home and keep a record of them.  You can monitor it several times a day.

In any case, you don't want to ignore it and even if you don't have insurance, you should get checked out.  There might be a clinic in your area that treats patients according to their income.

Exercise and what you eat can play a big part in helping to keep your blood pressure under control.  At my pharmacy, I can get my bp meds for $3.00 or $4.00 a month so it's fairly cheap.

You have gotten some good advice here. High blood pressure is not something that you can afford to fool around with. Investigate your options, but do something! You can't afford a stroke or kidney or heart disease, either and those often come along with high blood pressure that is not controlled.
