How can I prevent a slipping rib?

I have two ribs that slip out from various activities (mostly lifting at work) and I am really, REALLY tired of it happening and I havent had any good answers to how to correct the problem or atleast help. Usually, I have to go to the chiropractor between 1 and 3 times just to keep them in place. It is quite painful and I would love, love, loooooveee to never have it happen again, or atleast not as many times per year. Sometimes it happens every two months, sometimes I get lucky and it happens every half a year but it seems to be following the 2 month time period more often. I have tried wearing a stretchy ace bandage wrap around my ribcage at work but its too itchy and warm to keep on. Please! Help!

I had never heard of this either, but it would appear that you have Slipping Rib Syndrome. With the initial injury that causes the ribs to slip out of place the first time, the ligaments that hold them in place become stretched, making it easier for the ribs to slip out of place again (and again).

It sounds really painful, and I'm sorry to hear it keeps happening to you.

You'll want to talk to your doctor about it, if you haven't already done so. In the meantime, I found a piece that contains tips on preventing recurrent slipping. Please exercise caution, however, about employing all the ideas in this, and check with your doctor and chiropractor before attempting to put the ribs back in place yourself.
