Have you ever had to deal with head lice? If so, you know what an ordeal it can be!

According to this Health Day News article, "A new topical lotion may offer parents a faster, more effective way to get rid of head lice.Researchers report that just one treatment of topical ivermectin, an insecticide, kept almost three-quarters of treated children lice-free two weeks after treatment. That was without the dreaded fine-toothed combing to remove the lice eggs (nits) that leaves so many children in tears." more

*crossing fingers* we haven't had to deal with it yet, and hope we never have to. The treatment does sound really good, but I'm worried about applying an insecticide directly to your body. I've heard how hard it can be to rid your house of them, so whatever you can do to stop it is good. The problem is that not all parents will even treat their kids when they get lice, total shame in my eyes. Until they actually get off their butts to do it, we'll always have this issue.

We've dealt with it once and it was an absolute nightmare!  Cleaning every surface around numerous times a day, washing bedding, combing out the nits.  UGH!  It was just awful!  This new treatment does sound good.  Hopefully I'll never need it, but if I do, I'll be on the lookout for it!

Fortunately, I've never had to deal with lice before. If we ever do, though, I'll be using my neighbor's homemade remedy. She's had to deal with lice a few times (from school), and she swears by this concoction. I don't remember the ingredients, but they're mostly things that can be found around the house. I don't think I'd want to put an insecticide on my kid unless I had no other choice.
