They say "white lies" are harmless, but do you tell them? Is it ok to fib a bit on things like your weight, your income, your sex life? We want to know!

Besides teasing my little guy about what he was/wasn't getting for his birthday, I really don't lie. Ok.... I might've told a slight fib when it came time for my driver's license weight, but doesn't everyone?

The survey was closed, so I couldn't take it, and I was curious what the questions would be and how a "little white lie" is defined. So I'm not sure what to say about it, except that sometimes, if people ask questions that are really not any of their business, prevaricating and avoiding the truth makes sense to me. The alternative is the appear rude and straight out tell them it's none of their business, which of course can be the case, but often the person is counting on that: that the person being questioned is not going to want to be rude.

Thanks for letting me know the survey was closed, I've removed the link from my post.

You're right, I think a lot of people tell "white lies" in order to not be rude.

I answered the questionnaire before it closed, but didn't post anything here because the questions weren't entirely applicable to me. I came out sounding like a saint, which is far from true. :smileywink:

LOL - I think you're right about the driver's license weight question — and I think the DMV expects people to fudge on it!

Several years ago, when I went to renew my license, they asked me to check the details and confirm that everything was right. When I admitted the weight should be corrected, the clerk looked me up and down and said "It's in the ballpark." I had gained 20 pounds since the previous license was issued!

However, I was happy they didn't list my actual weight at the time, because I lost the extra pounds pretty quickly and for five years I would have been stuck with a driver's license that showed me as being heavier than I was.

Oh no, that's funny! I think you're right though, that they expect people to fudge on them. I know when I did it was because I'm hoping to be back at that better weight before too much longer.
