Do you find that living with chronic pain has contributed to depression? Or do you feel that the depression has colored your view of chronic pain, making it harder to cope with?

hey Lorie,

yeh, I agree. Pain makes me feel bad and feeling bad increases the pain. It is a vicious circle.

Pain of a Chronic Illness/es or Condition/s or the Depression.

Catch-22...

It's both....you hurt so you're depressed and you're depressed because you hurt! Gimme the depression and take away the pain and I'll be happy as can be! I'd be rid of the blues almost immediately!

Hey,

yes pain and depression are so tied together that what cam efirst is hard to detect. It is the chicken and the egg Frown. I think I would be so much better without the pain, I think we all would.

Hey Lorie,

I know exactly what you mean. I am sure I would be so much happier without the pain. But I guess we are kinda stuck with it.

Hello everyone. I am new here & I've ascertained we all suffer with pain. When I first read the question -- whether pain comes before depression or vice versa -- I also compared it to the "chicken or egg" theory. However, I can definitively say that my pain came before depression. Going over 3 yrs. without a diagnosis as to what was happening to me -- reason for such unimaginable/unusual pain -- was very frustrating & scary to say the least. Also, once a diagnosis was determined, fear then turned to deep depression. The journey continues some 10 yrs. later ... rare incurable disease begets pain begets depression and so on and so forth!
