i'm a 32 year old female with severe back pain.  i have family history of ostoprosis  and digenrative disc disease on mother and father side.  i have always suffered from back pain but normally could still function through the pain.  i do have spells where i can't get out of bed because i can straighten up or in stuck bent over.  i recently hurt my back worse and can barely walk.  i have pain around my t 7, l 1, and l 3. i have tried rest,  heat,  ice,  muscle rubs,  message,  chiropractor , stretches,  and nothing helps.  i had surgery three weeks ago on my ovaries and this pain is worse.  i went to dr  and the did xrays  and some kind of ultra sound type thing.  he said i had 3 bulging discs and strained muscles.  he gave me loratabs and flexerill.  i was release to swim again from my female surgery and usually the water and weightlessness helps but not this time.  i didn't do anything excessive just floated in deep end so my legs could just hang.  i can ride,  sit,  stand,  walk or lay for any length of time. what should i do i can't afford to go to specialist or get appointment until september.  if anyone has any ideas of what this could be i would greatly appreciate it.

Hello,

So, I used to "lurk" here but haven't been here for awhile.  My back has been really bothering me a lot so I thought I'd pay a visit.  I don't know if I have much advice for you, but I definitely feel your pain!  I was in a car accident when I was 25.  I did everything my doctors and physical therapists told me to do.  My doctor told me I shouldn't get pregnant again, but there's no way I was going to delay adding to our family on account of some idiot who had too much to drink on his way home from work!  My back was good until, when I was almost 40, I slipped and fell on some snow.  I have been in pain ever since.  (that was 2002)  I have learned to live with it, but at times, it is untolerable.  I have tried everything, except surgery, and nothing helps.  I have two bulged discs and arthritis in my spine, among other things.  I guess my question for you is have you had an MRI done?  How do you know your pain is in those particular discs?  Usually you have to have a discogram done to determine if your pain is coming directly from a disc.  However, I do not recommend a discogram unless a doctor tells you it is completely necessary.  I had one done, it was more painful than childbirth, let me tell you!   It told us nothing, and it wasn't worth it to me.   So, I know I'm not much help, maybe some one else will come on that knows more and can be more helpful.  I just wanted you to know I read your post and I know how you feel.  I don't think that people that don't have chronic pain have a clue what it is like.  I am in pain all the time except when I am sleeping.  The pain doesn't usually keep me from sleeping, but lately it has been, I don't even know why.  Hope you are feeling better soon.

I haven't had MRI with contrast yet but I think he will set me up for one on my next visit in a week. the bugles were confirmed by another dr, the did 2 different scans. I am with a specialist now and I have done the chiropractor, physical therapy (which made it worse) and electrothereapy. I know have knee pain and swelling along with the back issue. I am not at the end of my pain tolerace rope. I am getting no relief no matter what I do. I feel helpless. the are looking at doing a nerve block on back and inject my knee. if knee doesn't get better they are going to go scope it out and clean the joint. Back is still up in the air with what will be next step. Hope your is getting a little easier to bare.
