too much pain! from new bed or weaning off of Cymbalta??

Hello, I haven't been here in a while.  I have had chronic back pain for over 10 years and in the last 3-4 years fibromyalgia.  I've tried all conservative treatments, injections, chiropractic, massage, etc.  All somewhat relieve the pain, but only temporarily.  In November I started taking 30 mg. of Cymbalta.  Didn't notice a lot of improvement in the pain, but also didn't notice too many ill effects from the med. so doctor bumped me up to 60 mg.  I began gaining weight and still not that much pain relief.  Decided it wasn't worth continuing to gain weight (not good for the back pain either!)  so I would wean off of the Cymbalta.  I started taking 60 mg., for two days, and 30 mg. on the third.  Now I am at every other day (30, 60, 30, 60)  I am waking up in the mornings in the worst kind of pain ever!  My elbows and everything hurt!  It is affecting me during the day as well, I am in more pain during the day than I have been in a long time, before I started taking Cymbalta.  BUT, here's the thing, this has been happening since we got a new bed.  So, I have been blaming it on the bed.  We had a really bad bed before, it was a pillow top that was defective but the company wouldn't replace/return it so we were stuck with it.  I had been chalking it up to the fact that it was a really bad bed we had and now we have a new good bed and I am just adjusting.  The store has said they would exchange the bed and are being very good about it.  But, I just don't know for sure if it's the bed or if it's trying to decrease the Cymbalta!  Even though I didn't have this kind of pain when I was only taking 30 mg. or not any Cymbalta at all, could the pain just be from trying to wean off of it?  I'm thinking of increasing it again to see but I don't want to gain more weight!  The bed really doesn't seem comfortable since we got it (seemed comfortable in the store) it's too hard for me.  It's a memory foam with alternating springs, but I just can't feel the memory foam at all, so that's why I keep thinking it's the bed.  Help!!  What would you do?  Thanks!

Well, I think I solved my problem!  I slept in a different bed in my son's room (a bed we got from someone and I've never slept in it before) and guess what?  I wasn't in excruciating pain when I got up!  (About the same pain as I usually am when I wake up.)  So, now I know, it's not from trying to wean off of the Cymbalta!  I went and bought a different bed today, this is my last chance to exchange it, so I really, really hope it's going to be O.K.   So, I guess, never mind, I figured it out.

You know it never even occured to me that my bed could be a problem until I had a chiropractor mention it. We had bought a new bed last year and we really put a lot of thought into it getting reviews and testing out various mattresses. Just days after buying it, I came down with a stomach virus that left me all achey. Those aches never seemed to go away, only get worse. I'd lay down at night in my very comfortable bed but each day I would get up feeling worse and worse. Finally, a chiropractor suggested I try a different bed for a few days to rule out the bed. I thought he was nuts and was honestly shocked when I started feeling better the first night. After a few days my I was "healed", went back to my bed and it started all over again. We had spent a lot of money on that bed so it wasn't an easy decision but we got rid of it and got a new bed that worked out for us.

Another thing to be careful of is office chairs. Most office chairs now come with contour seats. I discovered by trial and error (and help from the chiropractor) that any kind of contour seat causes pain in my lower back and legs. It has been quite a challenge to find an office chair these days with a flat seat!

Hi!  I too was amazed how BAD sleeping on a bed could make me feel!  I was not only in a huge amount of pain when I woke up, but was also in much more pain than normal during the day.  This is what made me think it might have been from trying to go off of the Cymbalta.  I am getting a new bed delivered this Sat., and I'm hoping if the other bed made me feel that bad, that this one will make me feel really good!  Keeping fingers and toes crossed!

How is it going? Did the new bed help any?

I slept on the first new bed for one last night on Friday and again couldn't move when I got up.  Sat. and Sunday nights slept in the new bed and so far so good, I feel O.K. when I get up.  Knocking on wood,  that it's going to be a good bed for me, I'll let you know!  Thanks!

You know my husband and I bought a new pillow top bed a while back and I found it so comfortable that I slept like a rock the first night we got it. I didn't even notice my husband had gotten out of bed and slept on the floor. He was so miserable and achey within a few hours he immediate realized it was the bed. I thought he was crazy when he told me. So the next night, the same thing. We had to take the bed back and get something flatter and firmer.

I would have never thought a bed could cause pain until it happened to us.

I would never have thought so either until it happened to me.  Luckily, my husband has been O.K. with both of the beds, no complaints with either one, and the only time he got up to sleep some place else in the past few weeks was when he had a bad cough and couldn't sleep anyway.  This bed is much, much better.  I still wake up in some pain, but it is WAY better than the last bed, because that was unbearable!  It's only been about 10 days, but so far so good.  I think it will definitely be better than the defective pillow top we were sleeping on before.  Yeah, don't anybody buy a pillowtop!  They start to shift and sag and pretty soon you have a mountain in between you and your hubby!  This new bed is a gel-infused memory foam, a hybrid.  It is really a nice bed.  I hope it's going to be good for us.  We also purchased a base that adjusts and has a massage feature.  Nice!  I love that!  Of course, everyone has a certain kind of bed they like, so what's good for me, might not be good for you.

Hi!  So the bed is fine, comfortable for me.  I have a new problem!  Last week I had some varicose veins lasered.  Well, the procedure wasn't comfortable by any means, but I survived.  The pain from the procedure itself has been tolerable.  However, this pain in the butt compression stocking I have to wear is another story!!!  Getting this thing on is the first problem!  It is very hard to get on and I have strained my back doing it!!  Now my back hurts worse than it ever usually does!  The stocking is very tight and uncomfortable and I have to keep wearing because I'm having more procedures on other veins.  They would like you to wear the stocking for a least a few hours a day for 6 months after the first procedure.  I tell you what, the veins were not causing me that much pain and if I would have known this was going to happen I don't know if I would have gone through with it!  To top it off we're having a grandbaby any day now, and I'm so mad I did this right now!!!  The reason why I did it is because I was off work (Easter vacation) and this makes it so that I don't have to wear the blessed stocking as much when it's hot outside.  I am regretting this mostly because of what it's done to my back, but what do I do now????  I'm hoping a trip to the chiropractor will help.  I got percocet for a pain killer and didn't have to use it (just my anti-inflammatory) but I am ready to take it tonight to help me sleep and hope it helps with the back pain!!  I have never used narcotics before but I need to get some relief from my back pain.  This baby is a week over due and so I'm sure part of the reason I'm not sleeping is because I'm worried about it.  Anyway, just had to vent!!
