Found out I have Parkinson's Disease and I am Scared

Hi, All

A few months ago I learned I have Parkinson's I am scared. My dad had it and other members of my family have had it. I am the youngest one who got it early. The others were in their 70's. They say it is not genetic but I can not help but to think they are wrong. I say what my dad went through as I was one of his caregivers. It moved fast with him and it is doing the same with me. They suspected about a year ago I might have. In May it was confirmed.

There are days my whole body shacks it is so unnerving. I lose my balance and fall often. I am on something called Mirapex.

I hope it is ok if I come here.

Thank you Gail. I know everyone tells me to take one day at a time but it is hard. Some of the things I could do before I can't do or have trouble doing. Some days I a so frustrated with myself. I know it is a matter of pride but when you have done something as easy as zip a coat and at times can't get the zipper in because your hands are shaking too much and someone has to help being a 49 year old woman it is hard to take.

Then there are days when my 12 year old nephew saw my hand shaking so much when I was drinking a glass of water he went and got me a straw and put it in my glass and said "It ok Benny that way you won't spill it." (Benny is a nickname). I just wanted to cry.

Hello Ces,

I've tried to post a response to your post twice now and somehow lost them so I'll try again and this time I'll try to keep it

My heart goes out to you. I am a caregiver and found many resources on parkinson.org, including forums, that allow you to connect with others that are going through similar circumstances, and learning to live with the disease the best they can.

this is soooo strange. when I responded to this post a few days ago, my old post from a year ago didn't appear or at least I don't recall seeing it. I only saw the responses from Sara, Ruben and marty. Strange. It wasn't until yesterday, when I was logged on from my iphone, that I noticed all my old one and my current one. I also overlooked that this original post was from 2010. I only noticed the date on the most recent responses. Strange. So, I responded to this twice almost exactly a year apart. Interesting. Now it's been a year since CES was diagnosed. I hope they are doing well.
