Newly diagnosed, question about diet.

Hi everyone,

I have 3 children and just suffered a miscarriage last month.  After a follow up sonogram (due to right ovary pain) I was just diagnosed with PCOS.  Im trying to do as much research as I can to understand this.  My first step is to figure out what diet I need to be on.  I've had a weight problem all my life and an eating disorder for 14 years so telling me that this is the most important aspect of treating this condition is pretty hard and scary for me.  I know that carbs are bad but I am reading that some people recommend no dairy or meat and others say its ok.  Im just confused and scared and looking for answers.  Please help!

Hi there and welcome!  Boy, what you have been hearing is confusing!  LOL  Low carb is the way to go for us.   Below are a couple of links for you to check out.  How low carb you need to go is different for everyone.

Yeah, the no meat part is confusing, at least to me.  Naturally raised meat is the best for us.  Diary, I can help you with.  For about 50% of the population, milk is not so good for them.  There are several different thoughts as to why this has happened.  Some of these never know that they shouldn't drink it, no noticeable affects, but some have severe affects like stomach issues and nausea.  As you explore what you should be eating, you will figure out whether it is good for you or not.

My general recommendation for diet.  Pick a low carb plan, there are tons out there.  Give it a go.  Start a journal.  Everyday, write in how you are feeling and what you eat.  Kind of a time line.  Eventually, you will start to see how different foods are affecting you.  As time goes on, you will start to see how it is you should eat.  Yeah, it does take time, I wish there was a fix all plan I could tell you about.  I do really like Atkins because you kind of start with a clean slate and it will be even clearer to you what foods are good and bad.  I like the zone as well.  There are good and bad things about all of them.  Just pick the one that sounds right to you.

++++thoughts!  I am very happy to help you along the way!   Take care, Laura
