I just got this prescription today and the doctor didn't tell me how much to use.  Does anyone else use this?  and what's the minimum I can get by with?  Mostly just for dryness and itching.

Hi, Mfap3030.  Very little of the estrogen used in vaginal cream form is absorbed into the system.  In fact a lot of doctors who (because of cancer in the family) will not prescribe any other form of estrogen for a patient will often prescribe this one.  It is absorbed direcly into the mucosal tissues in the vagina and used by them.

My doctor prescribed the same thing for me, but I'm afraid to use it. Do you know if any of the estrogen leaches into the body? I am determined to go through this process as naturally as possible. I am post menopause as of July 2011 and vaginal atrophy is a big problem right now. That and the pain that comes with it.

Thank you for responding.  So far, I think it's awesome stuff.  I thought I had a yeast infection, had a pap smear, nothing showed up.  I finally started looking around the internet and saw this cream and got a prescription.

LOL  Leave it to a doc to forget to tell you how much to use -- or how often to use it!!!

The usual dose is 1 gram inserted at bedtime, nightly for the first 2-3 weeks followed by 2 times a week there after.  HOWEVER, we are each so very different that you really do need to talk with your doctor about how much and how often (s)he wishes you to use it.  It is most likely safe to begin with the "normal" dose though.

I have used Premarin cream for years and am down to using it about once every two week....unless I begin to feel I need more.  I do always use a wee bit on the external 'bit' too, besides what I insert into the vagina.  That is especially for the external dry-itchies!

Please let us know how it works for you.

Remember, there are NO dumb questions regarding menopause!
