Excessive bleeding question

I find that as I go through peri-menopause I have very heavy periods. The heavy bleeding lasts about 24 hrs each month, and then I have lighter bleeding for a couple of days. My question is should I be taking an iron supplement or some other vitamin if I am losing a lot of blood about once a month? Thanks, robin

I can only say that heavy bleeding for 24 hours a month is not abnormal during peri-menopause.

Thanks. I really guess I should have rephrased that question. I realize that you guys don't know whether I personally need iron supplements. What I really meant to ask was has anyone else here found that they need iron supplements. I mean is it relatively common to become anemic during peri- menopause. I still wouldn't take supplements without consulting my doctor because too much iron is dangerous. I am just curious as to whether others here have found it necessary. The amount of bleeding that I am experiencing is very very heavy for me, so I started thinking about what problems that could cause. At the time I last went to the GYN I hadn't had a period for a couple months so I thought I was in Menopause. Now for the past 8 months or so I have been getting my period very regularly and very heavily. Thanks, Robin

Perhaps I should have read more closely, Robin!
