Heavy bleeding and dizziness

So I finally called to ask whether I should be concerned about anemia due to the heavy menstrual bleeding I am experiencing. The nurse said that she noticed that I reported heavy bleeding the last time I was at the doctor for my annual. She wanted to know if I had any new symptoms. I said no new symptoms. Then she asked if I had dizziness and I said yes. She then told me to go to the emergency room....really, emergency room? I told her I have been experiencing dizziness for quite some time (at least a year) and I was not going to the emergency room. My primary care physician could not identify a cause and he said not to worry about it. So now I am wondering if it is a result of peri-menopause. Has anyone else experienced dizziness? I can't get an appointment before may 18 so it will take a while to talk to the doctor. I am kind of frustrated that the doctor didn't ask me about dizziness at my annual and now I have to go back 6 months later. I would love to solve this dizziness issue and wish they had addressed it at that time. Thanks for any info on dizziness if any of you have experienced it. Robin

Hi! Yes, it can be related to perimenopause.

Thanks for your response. I have been dealing with this dizziness for over a year and had pretty much given up on figuring out the cause. It would make me feel much better to at least know the cause of this dizziness. The nurse on the phone said that they need to get my bleeding and my irregular periods under control. I can't imagine how they would do this except with BCPs. Not sure I want to go there, and I am not sure why they suddenly think it is imperative to get this under control when they have in their records that I told them about these problems at my last visit. And if it does need to be under control I would love to do that before my daughter's Bat Mitzvah in the middle of June. I have been worrying about not being able to sit through the service without having to change my pad and tampon. Thanks for your support. Robin

I don't know what they are thinking, but ANY unusual bleeding needs to be checked. I think in peri, some drs don't worry about once in awhile but when it continues, it is time to get it checked to make sure it is not something more serious than peri.

Things that can be done, include a dnc.

I don't have any bleeding between periods.
