Hi and welcome. I don't have any experience with this but have a sister going through it. She goes back in a few weeks to have hers checked on so she is at the same point you are. I'd love to hear what you decide to do about it.

My Ova1 was over 3.5 so I have an appointment with a gynecologic oncology doc next week.  The number doesn't mean I have cancer just that the gyn onc needs to do the surgery.  I am not sure what the test measures, still researching that as I am a need to know person.

If you are post menopausal, the chances are that having both ovaries removed would make much difference in how you feel, etc. Advantage? as you said, this would be a 4th abdominal, it would make it so that would never be a 'fear' again, of ovarian cancer. Please let us know when you find out what the dr says....  Good luck! And remember, you are NOT alone!

I saw the gyn oncologist today.  He's not overly concerned that it is cancer.  He has recommended a hysterectomy.   I am inclined to do it, since an oncologist recommended it,  it's hard not too. Also I am paranoid that cancer will show up somewhere and eliminating some places where it could show up might help my paranoia.  He will do a da vinci surgery so it won't be too bad.  A biopsy will be done whille he is still in so if it is cancer he will also remove some lymph nodes.  The worst part is that the first available date is late March.

I had a complete hysterectomy a little over a week ago, both ovaries and my appendix were also removed.  Intiial pathology shows the hemmorahagic cyst to have been benign.  There was a cyst on my other ovary, a fibroid on my uterus and endometriosis on my appendix and intestines.  There a pictures from the surgery and the hemorhagic cyst looks pretty big.  I'll be interest to see how bit it was.

Karla, how is your sister doing with hers?

She is not doing well but has been sick for weeks (flu, virus, sinus infection, etc) so they can't schedule her surgery until she is completely well.

How are you feeling? Will you start on HRT?

I was already post menopausal before the surgery. I took HRT for about 4 years but quit them on 3/3 after a breast biopsy that showed atypical hyperplasia. When the breast surgeon told me the results he said to stop taking it. I had lowered it to the lowest dose in November with the plan to stop so it was no big decision.
