I met with the gyn oncologist on Dec 6th. and was scheduled for my complete hysterectomy on Dec 18. The plan was robotic but I ended up having a full abdominal incision followed by 3 days in the hospital. Recovery has gone well, after 6 weeks I am back to work. Pathology report came back the day I got out of the hospital. I had endometrial cancer stage T1a, N0, meaning the tumor was less than 50% into the uterine muscle and nothing in the lymph nodes. The cancer was contained within the uterus. My oncologist talked to me about brachytherapy(vaginal radiation) to which I decided against due to the risk to the healthy organs. I have a 5% chance of recurrance but will be checked for the next 5 years(every 3mos for the first 2 years, then yearly after that to 5 yrs) before being declared cancer free. After 2.5 months of seeing Drs(gyn, gyn onc, pcp, urologist) I am glad to be finished for awhile.

Fortunately I have not had any symptoms of menopause. I'm hoping it stays that way!

I am glad to hear that it was contained! Just keep those appointments. If something should come back, the sooner it is caught the better.

When I had my hysterectomy the dr had hoped to do it lap but had to do a full abdominal too... so, I know what a 'surprise' that can be to wake up to. Did you have a full hysterectomy? Mine was, and I only had major hotflashes Embarassed in the hospital after... Let's put it this way, my surgery was the end of October in the midwest and they drug a fan out to put on me and finally turned the air on!!! I thought for sure I was going to suffer for ever, but when I came home, I was fine. In fact, I have never felt different than I did before the surgery. I just want you to know that not everyone does go into full misery! Wink

Barb, please let us know how you are doing and if you have any questions. Both Kt and I have had hysterectomies and btdt.
