Please share your pregnant during peri/meno stories!!!

Hi all, my DH and I have been TTC for around a year (we thought we could put it off, apparently not). I am 43, one ovary (removed due to torsion at 15). My cycles have been regular 28-32 until basically the beginning of the year, I had a short cycle, 24 days in early April, though temping showed an O. I had a very long cycle the month after that, 50 days, and am currently on a 44 day cycle. With both of these last two cycles I've had ultra mild spotting (really just barely a pink wipe), on a day here and there in the middle. I am really hoping that this isn't menopause yet, I realize it could be perimenopause but I'm am extremely bummed at the prospect of this being "the end," especially considering I have no baby to show for it. I am looking for as many cases of successful pregnancy during confirmed perimenopause/meno as possible. I have been very depressed the last few days about it. We are in the process of getting health insurance, waiting to see if approved, so I can't see a doc just yet. I am ready to take the next steps towards "alternative methods," as I'm aware my chances with my aging eggs is poor. hmmm maybe I'm despondent because it's part of the peri game? Also, how quickly does this thing happen? So not fair that it happens so suddenly... I mean two months in a row grrr. :smileysad:

Thanks for any encouragment ladies!!

Sorry, Michele, I have no suggestions on what to do to conceive now that you seem to have entered the peri-menopause phase of your life.  I can tell you that a pregnancy *can most definitely happen* at this time of life, although it is not to be promised.

As for 'how long this lasts' - peri-menopause can last as long as 15 years from the beginning to when post-menopause is reached. "Menopause" is merely a point in time - that time at which you have gone one full year without any menstrual bleeding. Beyond that time you are post-menopausal.

You have had two monthly cycles in a row that are totally irregular for you, the next 15 or 20 may be perfectly normal.  There is no way to be sure what will happen or when during this time of life.

Do talk to your doctors to try to decide the best way for you and your DH to become parents.  It might be as simple as just "relaxing" and enjoying a healthy sex life.  Often not trying will let it happen.  I do hope you find yourself pregnant without outside help, but don't pass that up entirely either!

Perhaps there will be some who have been in your shoes who will step forward here to tell you what they did and how they did it.

Please know that you are welcome here anytime ~ to ask questions, to vent (it really does help!), to share experiences, or to just hang out with other women who understand and care....

There are NO dumb questions when it comes to Menopause
