At what age do the hot flashes start?

My sister just turned 45 and she insists she has been having hot flashes. That seems a bit young doesn't it? I thought maybe it was her blood pressure but she says that is fine. I told her to schedule an appointment with her Ob/Gyn but she won't. She says it's "natural" and I shouldn't be so worried. Am I really overreacting?

I am sure you will get a variety of answers, but 45 isn't too young.  I actually started having night sweats at 35, mine was more of a hormonal imbalance that I have finally gotten under control.  She may not be starting perimenopause, the hot flashes may be for another reason, but there is a possibility to start it that young yes.

Perimenopause is the time before meno and can last up to 10-15 years. The normal age range for meno is 46-53 with 51 the average. If you go to  http://cl-klrambo-ivil.tripod.com/menopauseoasis/ you will find a list of 59 symptoms. Menopause is a point in time, when you have bled your last. You must go 1 full year without even one drop of blood to be sure. After that point you are 'post' meno... So, your sister is correct that it is probably normal. As long as she is having her annual, she should be fine.
