Bowel problems and your social life

I have two friends with IBS and I know it greatly affects their social lives. It seems like they both have to plan their days around a bathroom. When deciding to go anywhere, they have to know in advance what the bathroom situation may be. Do you have to do the same? Does your bowel problems interfere with your social life in any way?

I don't have that problem, but my mom did. And it really did have an impact on her social activities, especially as she grew older.
