Gas every day - getting older?

I have been getting painful gas every day upon waking. I take chewable gas tablets but even 4 or 5 don't help! I will be 40 in a month, so I thought maybe it happens more as you get older, but I don't think I can deal with this for 40 more years!

Hi and welcome!

In many cases, gas is related to what you have eaten and I do think it tends to get worse as you get older. If it is really that painful, though, you may want to check with your doctor to rule out any kind of digestive tract problem.

You need to see a GI, no other way to find out. Many things it could be, incl. a bacterial issue in the intestines. When you didn't have it in the past but have it now, something's up, not necessarily anything serious, but gas is annoying, isn't it? Feels awful.

It is quite common for middle aged people to develop symptoms of indigestion. There are several reasons for gas and bloating: too large meals, lack of enzymes, not enougn hydrochloric acid produced by stomach. My best advice - go to professional nutritionist and balance your diet.
Good luck!

Thanks for your input, Anna. I do know that nutritionists can be very helpful with a lot of GI problems. Have you had experience using one?
