husband over doing it after gall bladder surgery

UGGHH, why can't men listen?   My husband had his gall bladder out laparoscopically on June 26th.  He felt crummy all weekend and they found he had stones in his bile duct.  They did an ERCP to get them out.  That was Monday.  He went back to his job yesterday.  Today he is off for the 4th and is doing too much around the yard, I feel.  I really like this surgeon we had, but he gave one bit of bad advice.  "If it hurts, don't do it."  Well, don't ever tell that to a farmer!!!  They'll just keep doing things until something hurts!!  I found things on the internet that said not to lift more than 10-20 pds. for the first two weeks and nothing heavy like furniture for 6-8 weeks.  Sounds reasonable to me, but tell him that!  He's not lifting  50 pds or anything, he's not really "lifting" anything, so he probably thinks it's O.K.  He's doing a lot of pushing and pulling though and I don't think it's good.  The surgeon had to make one of his incisions bigger because it was so full of stones.  He's going to rip something open and I'm just getting pissed!!!   I'm not tring to be selfish here but I'm getting tired of going to the ER!!  We've been to the ER twice in the last month, plus the surgery, plus the ERCP.  If he doesn't listen to me and he rips something open I won't feel sorry for him.  Problem is it could keep him from going to his real job.  Farming is just on the side, we don't make any money at it.  Any ideas on how to get a stubborn 52 year old man/farmer to listen??

Signed,

I think the only thing to get a stubborn man to listen is his own self. When he rips something and it costs him pain and money, he might think twice next time.
