WEDNESDAY, Feb. 20 (HealthDay News) -- An implanted magnetic device could offer a new treatment option for people with chronic heartburn that is not controlled with medication, a small study suggests. http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/news/fullstory_134194.html

Do you have trouble controlling your GERD with medication? Is this something you might be willing to try?

I'm not sure I'd risk bone thinning. While I'd love to have more relief, I see far worse problem in the future if I develop thin bones so I don't think at this time I'd be willing to try it.

The doctor in the article was citing bone thinning as a long-term side effect of the medications (proton pump inhibitors), not the surgery. It is really not known what, if any, long term side effects there might be from this procedure because it is too new.
