Hi,

My daughter came home early from school today complaining of symptoms of the stomach flu... her stomach hurts, her head hurts, and so far she threw up twice.

Oh no! I hope your daughter is feeling better today.

One thing that I always do with my kids us follow the BRAT diet when they're sick (bananas, rice, applesauce, toast and I add saltine crackers and whatever fluids I can get into them). It may not help them get better faster, but it does at least get a few calories into them and help keep them from becoming dehydrated.

I am afraid I am coming in a bit late to be of much help since hopefully her bug has run its course by now.

Hot tea is often soothing to an upset stomach and ginger is good, too. Gingerale used to have real ginger in it but most does not any more, so steeping a bit of fresh ginger root in hot water and adding some sugar is the best way to get ginger into her. Tiny sips at a time until you are sure she can handle it as long as she is actively vomiting, because you do not want to set her off again.

As far as not spreading it to others -- scrupulous hand hygiene is the best prevention. Wash your hands after every contact with her or anything she has touched! It goes a long way to keeping the germies from spreading.

I'm sorry for taking so long to get back to this board. My daughter is feeling much better, and luckily no one else came down with it.

Thank you for all of your suggestions and advice.

I am glad that she is feeling okay now and I am sure you are glad that no one else got sick.
