I just need to get this off my chest..I always thought it was difficult raising 4 small children but realized the physical strain of taking care of children is nothing like the mental agony when they are older and making decisions of their own.

Plananana,  indeed, you are lucky one.  I'd really love to hear this coming from our younger son.

And there will be those times when your children as adults will cause you heartbreak because of the poor choices they make.  I am a witness to this having to do with my younger son.  When he was living at home, of my two sons, he was my baby and the closer one to me.  Now he is a total stranger.  After he left home in unfavorable conditions and making poor choices, he disassociated himself from me and my Dh, but all his indifference seems to be directed at me. The last time I saw him or talked with him was the end of July of last year.  Yet, he only lives 2 hours away from us.  After a falling out I had with him and after me apologizing to him, it doesn't matter how many times I've tried contacting him through text messaging, all my texts go unanswered.  At present he chooses not to have anything to do with us, though we have shown him full support when he has gone through rough patches because of his poor choices.  The only time he even attempts to get in touch with us is if he's having trouble with his ex. We are heartbroken at his recent and very odd behavior and I seriously doubt that we will see him again, unless God moves him and opens his eyes to see the error of his ways.   -Kathryne

I can certainly second that motion. However, I love the relationships I have developed with my children so while the their decisions can often bring me much stress, I also get great joy from them. There is nothing that will cheer me up more than a call from one of my children that begins with "Mom, I was just sitting here thinking about you and want to tell you how much I love you...."
