Heart attack from stress

I'd like to talk with someone who has honest to God had a heart attack from stress. Can you describe what kind of events were happening in your life? Did you know you were at risk? Did you do anything to try prevent it?

I am so overwhelmed right now with family problems, financial worries, and a nagging health issue (need surgery for torn ligament) that I am concerned about my heart. I'm in my late 40's and in decent enough health with no real serious issues like diabetes or anything that I know of. A friend lost one of her adult children in an accident yesterday and I experienced some pain in my chest and back while I was at her home trying to help out. It occured to me that I could have a heart attack if I am not careful. Do you have any advice?

Hi Patsy,

I'm so sorry to hear you are under so much stress right now and that you have lost a family friend. My first thought is that if I were you, I'd call my family doctor right away and get an appointment to discuss what is happening in your life and to describe the chest pains you experienced. He will check things out and probably be able to offer some professional advice on stress relief.

Good luck and please let us know how you are doing. {{hugs}}

I'm so sorry to hear about your friend; losing a child is every parent's worst nightmare. I've never had a heart attack, but I know that my husband suffered chest pains, difficulty breathing, etc. a while back and we rushed to the ER, thinking heart attack. Thankfully, it turned out to be nothing more than GERD combined with a panic attack. Took a few days of testing to get the results, though. He had to undergo stress tests, wear a heart monitor for 24 hours, etc.

It probably would be best for you to talk to your doctor and get checked out; women often put off doing just that, assuming the pains aren't serious. Given the amount of stress you're under right now, you'll probably feel better by getting a professional opinion.

Take care and let us know how it goes!

I had a Heart Attack at Forty-nine.
My beloved Mom died in her Fifties of one.
Last year my dd had some issues with her heart, she was twenty-four.
Please talk to your health-care professional, get a physical.
It could save your Life.
Even with my Mom's history I thought it could never happen to me, it can!
I ALWAYS say when in doubt check it out!
I am so sorry for your friend's loss, you are a wonderful friend!
We have to take care of ourselves first.
I thought because I don't smoke, eat right or so I thought and exercised as much as I could with RA and OA it couldn't happen to me.
It never crossed my mind I could be at risk.
High Cholesterol and High Blood Pressure.
