How do you tell a coworker she needs to bathe?

I have just about had it with a woman from work and I am about to say things to her I know I am going to regret. We all call her "Petey"  (Stinky Pete) and I am not only angry when I have to work with her but embarrassed that I have to be associated with her. If I can smell her, I am sure the customers can too. This woman doesn't bathe enough and I do not understand why management hasn't stepped in and said something to her. Her hair is greasy and she stinks so badly after three or four days it impossible to work with her. She takes the time to pin her hair up and apply fresh makeup so I just don't get why she doesn't just jump in the shower. How can I tactfully say something to her?

I think if you were a man and it were another man you could just walk up and tell him he stinks and needs to hit the shower more often and everything would be fine. I've heard men tell other men to use more deodorant and they all laugh and that's that. But for some reason women can't be that frank or direct with each other. I think I would first complain to the supervisor and let him/her deal with it. If enough fellow employees say something, surely a manager will discreetly say something to her. Especially if she is out dealing with customers.
