Relocate to keep job?

We have just been given notice that my office is moving to another city. Most of us have been given the option of relocating with the company. I am torn over this! I love my job and love my home. I do not want to give up my job or move. Commuting is not an option. My family is evenly split over whether or not to move. I just don't know what to do. Would you give up your home for a job? Why?

Wow, that is really a tough decision and would take a lot of thought to come up with a decision if it were me. With finding a good job being so tough these days, I would probably lean towards the job. You can create a good home somewhere else but you can't always find a good job somewhere else.

Well i woud not give up my home for a job. How long do you have? Can you use up some peronal time when they move and look for something else or do you have to give the answer right away? I think that i would only move as a last resort if i thought my kids would go without food or something.

I think the deciding factor would be whether you think you could find a comparable job if you stayed in the same place.  If you can't, I'd say move.  I think you could get unemployment, but if that runs out & you can't find a new job, then what?  You didn't say whether you were married or single or had kids--those are also deciding factors.  If you're married & your spouse works, then maybe the financial thing isn't as big an issue.  How long will it be til you have to decide?  Can you start looking for another job now?
