According to Health Day News, hit songs celebrate drinking and drinking to excess. "Today's popular music often celebrates excessive drinking as a fun, beneficial pastime, even highlighting select booze brands in many lyrics, a new study finds.

Hip-hop, rap, R&B and country songs included references to Patron tequila, Hennessy cognac, Grey Goose vodka, and Jack Daniel's whiskey, which is featured in half of the songs that mentioned alcohol, the study found. But rock songs had no alcohol references at all.

Music can have a particularly powerful influence, the researchers said, because American teens spend about two and a half hours each day listening to music" read more

I am thinking about this, Karla.  I certainly don't encourage it.  Of course, I am from the Como, Goulet, Sinatra and Bennet era. Although, Dean Martin and the 'Rat Pack" are rumored to have hit the booze pretty hard.  But on the other hand America is a free country and we have freedom of choice.  For which I am grateful.  But in the end we have must bear the responsibility for our own choices, beliefs and actions.

In friendship,

Hi Karla....this is interesting.  There is a lot more offensive stuff in some of the lyrics of the music as well.  As offensive as I find encouraging drinking, I find lyrics to treat women bad, carry guns, fight, etc.  What is the answer?  We have a freedom of expression in our country that does not seem to extend to indivuals but is great for mass media hype in music and movies.  OK...enough of my rant.  I am wondering, however, if there are payments to some of these song writers and/or performers to use these particular brands in their music.  In movies, advertising is paid for using certain items in movies...like a certain brand of beer, liquor, cars, glasses, etc.  So how much of it is advertising?  Things that make you go Hmmmmmmmmmm!!!

But still, drinking is not the ultimate solution for everything. These things could be resolved by other ways too. Drinking affects you only.
