Just musing about life and sobriety and life and

I am technically on vacation this week. That means that I am taking my father to the DR, my eldest to 2 doctors and I am going to squeeze in the zoo for my youngest (if it stops raining.)

Dad was in the ER last week. His feet are swelling and the cause is either his CHF (congestive heart failure) or a couple of his medications. He needs the medications to strengthen the heart which is only pumping 15% of the blood the body needs to function. He refused to stay in the hospital, so he needs to see his cardiologist tomorrow. He is also having difficulty in the evenings remembering things. It isn't a true 'sun-downing' it is a result of his brain not getting all the oxygen it needs because of his diminished heart function.

Bre, my eldest, is seeing the optomitrist and neurologist this week. We need to get her migraines under control. I am also meeting with a friend from church about getting her a mentor and a tutor. Her p-ACT scores came back astronomically high and my friend wants her to get a tutor to inspire her curiosity, not to help her in her academics.

Knight and I have been making friends outside of AA. It is a little weird. These people don't drink to excess. As a matter of fact, they barely drink. Hmmm...odd people. LOL.

I really enjoy when you share about your life and what is happening. No matter what you are going through - you are still sober!
Isn't it amazing that there are people who actually do not drink to excess? I don't get it myself. All I know is that I am not one of them!

There are days I cannot believe I stay sober. I don't mean that I want to drink, but if I stop to think about what I can accomplish NOW, I am amazed. Sobriety is wonderful.

In the last 72 hours I have taken my dad to the Dr, my daughter to the optomistrist AND optician (in three separate towns), made chili, stuffed peppers, chicken and rice, split pea and ham soup, and meatloaf. I have packaged, frozen and typed instructions for reheating those and brought some to Dad. He grumbles because he doesn't want me cooking for him. Today he is under the impression that Knight is cooking for him. Eh, whatever works,

Both my girls have friends sleeping over and I have to make preparations to make pancakes in the morning.

Thank heavens for vacations!

...hopefully, by now you are back at work and recovering from all of the rest that you got on your vacation...

Actually, no, I am not back at work. We had today off also. Even if we hadn't...my youngest was diagnosed Saturday with strep, and spiked a fever this AM of 103.5 again.

...oh no...hopefully medicine will kick soon (do you allow her to take antibiotics?)...

Never got to the zoo. Dad's feet are better now that he is eating less salt. Bre's headaches are less frequent now that we have spent mega-bucks on type of the line lenses with anti-glare coating. Don't get me wrong, I would have paid any amount to help her.

Unfortunately things are not calmer. Two weeks ago, Magpie and Bre were both diagnosed with bronchitis, and Magpie with strep, then Bre had a severe attack of muscle spasms at school this past week. The pediatrician and neurologist have both diagnosed her with stress. The next day we were in the ER with Magpie who had atypical pneumonia. Really, I am not making that up. Meanwhile state assessment were last week and are this week. My husband and I both have colds, he has to go out of town two days each week for the next 3 weeks to do inventory and his mom needs help with a polite yet firm letter to a snotty law firm. I had a project due last Friday and tomorrow Magpie needs a recheck.

On the postive side, we got to a meeting last night and Magpie gave me a plant for Mother's Day.

I am wondering how long before I kill it.

...I think, once the alcohol is out of the system...exercise of any kind can help a person seek to remain healthy...man, nothing feels better than being toned and fit...feeling healthy and strong...for me, it's not just a motivator to not drink, but to eat healthy...just this holiday weekend, I came to the conclusion that when I indulge in unhealthy eating, even for just a meal, I feel bad physically...I feel bloated and lazy...yuck...
