My SO has been sober for a little over 3 years. When we first met and became friends, he was drinking and had just lost his job. The was after a stint in rehab after his alcoholism almost killed him. The last 3 years prior to our meeting were a horrible slide into oblivion and when he got sober he found he had a huge financial mess to clean up.

I am think his best idea is to talk to a lawyer and consumer credit counselors. I admire the fact that he put the child support and taxes first. Have him talk to the lawyer who did the divorce and check what was exactly in the documents.
