A lot of AA is based on common sense. Accepting that we can't change other people is just plain good sense. AlAnon is based on better sense LOL- Detaching with love, for example. We can love the person and hate what drugs or alcohol has done to that person. We can allow our alcoholic or addict to have the consequences of his/her behavior. That is so easy to say and so hard to do. No one wants to have our loved ones hurting...but from the pain of our consequences, we become 'sick and tired of being sick and tired.' I mean, if we never have consequences, then we never learn.
As for moving out of the bedroom, that is only something YOU can decide.
AA is for those who want to stop drinking, but Al-Anon is for people who care about problem drinkers. Al-Anon would be extremely beneficial for you to learn how NOT to be codependent, and to take care of yourself whether he continues to drink or not. He may never get help, but that doesn't mean you can't - on the contrary! If you want to sleep in another room, so be it. Alcoholism is a destroyer of families, careers, health, - you name it, it destroys it. Give Al-anon a chance - for YOU!
