How do you make yourself want to quit smoking?

I started smoking when I was 12 because my friends smoked. We got cigs from one of our friends parents who would leave her cartons on top of the fridge. We all thought we were so cool and everyone considered us the "bad" kids and we were so proud of our rep. Now I smoke because I guess I got hooked and I really enjoy smoking. I know it is not good for me but I can't make myself want to quit. I really don't want to quit smoking although I know I need to. So my question to everyone who has quit is how do you make yourself want to quit?

Hi and good question. I wanted to for years and just did not have the willpower to follow thru. I didnt stop until the cig companies jacked the price so high and so fast that I got mad at them. I swore I would not pay that kind of price to them so I could kill myself. My mom passed 2 years earlier from lung cancer, so I knew what could happen to me. I didnt stop then but the price thing was just the last straw. My stubbornness kept me from picking it back up every time I thought of them making money to kill me. They did come back down on pricing 4 months later and by that time, I didnt want to smoke. It has been 15 years next month since I lit up and I smoked for 36 years. So, I cant tell you what you need to do but I can share what I did. You will hit that spot where, even though you want to smoke, you start reaching out for life and freedom. Good luck and God bless. Let us know how you are doing......

that is a great question.  I have smoked for well over 40 years and have tried everything under the sun to quit smoking.  I had the left upper lobe of my lung removed and quit for 3 months - had to quit while I was in the hospital.  So after three months started smoking again - dont know why - just did.  Now I am trying to quit again - it is hard!!!  I enjoy the couple of cigs a day - but it always ends up to be a pack and half a day that I dont enjoy and then my breathing goes to shxxt.  I will keep trying to quit and hopefully I will kick the habit - but it is hard!!  I can think of a thousand reasons not to smoke - you just have to convince yourself of those reasons.
