Loss best friend

I know the CL of this board Promise, so wanted to post something about a loss I am experiencing and hoped it is okay to post here.  I say this because she has not passed away, but she has ended our friendship of over 20 years.

I am wondering if the loss I am going through is similar to the loss one would experience if a loved one had passed away?

I am having a very hard time, "letting go" and so I hoped you all wouldn't mind if I posted my loss on here.

Long story short, we were so close for so many years.  Talked on the phone almost every day, many days we talked for hours.  We live in different states now, but went to high school together.

About 6 months ago, I slowly noticed she called less and even found out she had been to the ER and never told me.

The friendship slowly ended, and in Nov. she sent me a text that was very cruel.  I did not do anything to her, so I sit here wondering why she choose to stop being friends.  We had shard so many personal things about our future and our plans for the future.

I don't understand????  Why???
