My parents' anniversary is on Friday, and as you all know, we lost my mom in April.

HI, my Mom lived 17 years after my Dad died. I would call your dad on that day unless you live nearby then maybe have dinner wtih him. I never sent my Mom any special card on that day but would call her and I know my 2 sisters did also.
For my husbands birthday there was 5 of us at his grave and we released ballons which was very beautiful. treat yourself to something special that day, OK? hugs, Josie

I think it is always better to acknowledge the day because the thought that the day doesn't matter any more or appears to have been 'forgotten' really hurts.

After we lost my Mom back in 2007, I always made sure to call my Dad on that day just to let him talk about anything he felt like.

That's good. Sometimes it isn't what we say that helps, it is often what we don't say
