Breast Cancer & Diet

Since my diagnosis of breast cancer a few months ago, I have learned so much about reducing risk of reoccurence.  One of the main things is hormone therapy and diet.  I need to reduce the amount of estrogen my body produces as it was determined I am ER postiive for estrogen receptors. (the cancer feeds on the estrogen in my body)  The adjustments in diet, eliminating white flour products, sugars and alcohol, really have not been that difficult, but  variety in meals can be a challenge.  Does anyone have any recipes they would like to share?

Hi Cheryl,

I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis. How are you feeling? Please remember to check with your oncologist when trying any kind of special diet. My mother-in-law thought she could cure her breast cancer with a special diet (no sugar, flour, etc) instead of conventional treatment. It didn't work out well.

Here's a really nice casserole you substitute various fruits and just leave out the chocolate. It is absolutely delicious. http://www.inspiredtaste.net/9928/baked-oatmeal-with-strawberries-banana-and-chocolate-recipe/

www.100daysofrealfood.com is a great website with a lot of good recipes and advice on eliminating processed foods and sugars out of your diet. Most of the recipes use whole wheat flour instead of white flour. As I am sure you have learned, cancer also feeds on sugars in your diet, so trying to stay with a very alkaline diet also helps.

Nancy,  My heart goes out to you and your mother-in-law. I, myself, decided to tackle cancer with the required surgeries and radiation. I also want to - scratch that, I NEED to, do all I can to reduce risk of nonoccurrence by doing as much research as I can do and make adjustments to my lifestyle as necessary. My oncologist actually suggested the changes in diet. I appreciate your feedback and the recipe! Prayers for you and your family.

Arryl - thank you so much for your response!  Awesome site!  Somehow I missed this one.  Very informative!
