Hi Everyone,

One of my daughter's playgroup friends was just diagnosed with Leukemia. We are all so sick about it. This little boy is so sweet and well behaved and his mother is just a wonderful person. He'd been sick for a while so they started running tests and discovered cancer. I don't know what to say to the mother or how to react. Our children are just three years old and I can't even begin to imagine how horrifying something like this would be. Do we continue to invite them to the playgroup? How can we sit around and talk about our children and life when her child could be dying. I just don't know what to do.

~hugs~

I would still include them....

Right now she and her little boy need their friends more than ever...:)...

I lost my cousin when I was a kid to leukemia.

She was four and her name was Laura.

I still miss her...:(...

Trying to keep things as normal as possible is important for kids, especially ones with an illness.  I would continue as normal, but also reach out to the mother and offer whatever you can to help, or let her know you are there for her if she just needs to talk, or needs help of any kind, with meals or errands when she is busy with doctor's appointments, etc.  Just knowing she has friends she can lean on will be a huge relief!
