Saying goodbye

When my mother-in-law was in her last few days after suffering from breast cancer, we were advised to go ahead and let her know that it was "okay to let go" if she needed to. Apparently, she listened and almost seemed relieved.

Have you ever had an experience where you've told your loved one it was okay to go ahead and die? What happened, and how did you feel?

We aren't at that point with my mom yet, but I'm sure it's coming. We just learned last week that she is too weak to handle anymore chemo, and without chemo her tumors will grow. I'm on the other side of the country from her, so it's been very hard to not be there to support her in person. I'm flying out in a couple of weeks with one of my boys to see her one last time :( It's going to be so hard, but am very grateful that I will get to spend that time with her. I'm still having a hard time grasping the circumstances, and would like to just stay in denial.
