Hi everyone. I used to be a CL here at Ivillage. I'm back and looking for others who might have experienced Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy abuse. I didn't know until 3 years ago that my mom had this. She simulated astham attacks by making me inhale water and later would do things like push me down the staris and say I tripped.

So I'm looking for others who have had this kind of abuse. It often starts with sexual abuse in infancy and as a toddler or even being taught how to molest younger siblings. That's why I came here......I know some of you may have expereinced this type of abuse.

Being a survivor of MSbP abuse is very lonely. Not many of us out there. If you've been through this, I'd love to talk.

thank you.............Jenny

No, my mother died when I was 21. I've had memories return and my siblings say it is true.

Thank you...........Jen

Hi Jenny

I haven't experienced Munchausen by proxy but I am familiar with the disorder in a textbook sort of way.  I also recall an episode of Law and Order SVU that also dealt with the subject matter.    I know that knowledge and experience are two different things and I can understand wanting to connect with others who have had similar experiences.

Daily Strength has an online support group specifically for Munchausen by Proxy so that might be an option if you don't manage to connect with anyone through iVillage.

Please know that you can still post and get support here if you would like.

I didn't experience this kind of abuse but I believe a person I know did this to her sons. They are both adults now and a complete mess. Neither can hold a job or keep a relationship going and both have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

Do you speak to your mother? Have you ever discussed this with her? How did you find out about it?
