Can you watch shows like Law and Order: SVU or movies involving a sexual assault? I tend to stay away from those kind of shows personally.

Sometimes I am okay but other times I am not...Lately I am finding myself having to screen what I watch.

Night-mares are a problem for me...

I can watch some but I also do not like surprises.

It can take me back to a place I do not want to go...

I typically don't have a problem watching Law and Order SVU  because they usually don't show the assault but they just talk about it having happened.   For me, the shows that actually show the assault are more difficult for me to watch but that doens't necessarily stop me from watching it, as long as I know it might be there.

What is more difficult is when I'm taken by surprise by a rape scene.  I remember watching something at school one evening and had no idea there was going to be  a rape scene and it was difficult because I was in a room with classmates and no one knew about my experiences and here I was half spaced out because of this scene that appeared before my eyes that I was not prepared for.

I think what made that particular scene more difficult was because it was very similar to my own experience so it was extra stressful.
