Hi - I hope I can get help here with what I might be doing wrong.  I have quite a bit of weight to lose, so that isn't the issue.  I did not exercise at all this week, but still expected that with such a drastic clean diet plan that I would experience the weight loss many people experienced as written in the book.  Even my waist size did not change.  I saw avocados in the recipes in phase one but not on the list of foods to enjoy.  That confused me, and considering it is a healthy fat and I know it helps keep you full, I have included avocados, probably 1/2 to 1 whole one almost each day.  I would appreciate any advice you have, hoping to make some connections here to help out!  Thank you!

Hi, Everyone is different and loses weight at different rates. It would be best if you kept a food log in the folder below so we can evaluate what you're eating and make sure that you're doing it correctly. 1/3 of an avocado is a serving size. Although avocados are a healthy fat they are still very high in calories and need to be limited. Avocados are listed under fats & oils in the food list. If you start a journal in the iJournal section below I'll be sure to keep an eye out for how you're doing. Good Luck and keep it up. We'll help you through.

Hi Cathy - thanks for the information.  I am now wondering if I have an outdated version of the book.  My phase one list of foods under oils/fats only lists olive oil and canola oil, no avocados.  Second, where did serving sizes come from?  My book states to eat until you aren't hungry except for a few measured exceptions like nuts and bacon.  I must have an old book. ?

It turns out I lost 3-4 pounds in one week, so I guess I shouldn't complain.  I'm sticking with it for sure. I don't give up easily.  I like that this diet is healthy and will be similar to the mediterranean diet.

Reading the posts was helpful - espcially one from someone who copied and pasted a day of eating in day 1 and it was definitely different than how I am eating, and you had replied to him that the info was correct.  I am NOT eating vegetables at breakfast.  I didn't know that I HAD to.

Can I have a whey protein shake now and then?

Thank you!

Hi,

Congratulations on the 4 pounds gone.  You're obviously doing something correctly.  You don't need to eat vegetables at breakfast.  You just need to eat 4 1/2 cups every day.  Some people find it easier to get a serving in at breakfast.  But you don't have to.
The South Beach Diet recommends whole, fresh foods.  Whey Protein shakes are high in calories and can not recommended.  You would be better off eating some turkey breast or other lean protein if you feel you are lacking protein in your diet.

Hope this helps.

4 pounds? That is really amazing. Great inspiration for those who are just starting out as well. It's good to see results early, because that really gets you going. Though don't always expect instant results because that will end up keeping you from going for the long haul. I've been trying all sorts of diets for a long time now. I always get very little results, but I won't let that get to me. I found a list of a bunch of different diets here: http://10rate.com/best-diet-reviews/. I'm trying to find the one that will be just right for me. I know I'll find it. I'm glad you are seeung results.
