Why are fruits not allowed in phase one?

Can someone explain to me what is wrong with fruit?

P1 is supposed to be for eliminating sugar and white carb cravings, and fruits have relatively high glycemic indices.  After a week or two on P1, your body adjusts to the steady levels of blood sugar without the spikes, and you can slowly add in fruits and whole grains as you ease into P2.  If your cravings are under control, you don't have to start with P1 and can go straight into P2.  HTH!
