dyk regarding accents, I generally sound like you would expect, meaning not much of a a deviation from standard American English. Kind of like a news announcer.
dyk as a child I had a strong NY accent and my 13 years in FL also helped me acquire a touch of southern, but they don't come out too often. At least not sober!
dyk but my speech patterns are very empathetic, meaning that if I around someone with a strong accent, I tend to pick it up almost instanly. Given how much i listen to audio books, this can sometimes be amusing!
dyk people also sometimes think I am making fun of their accents, but I don't even realize that I doing it.

DYK I may live in NY but I have a southern accent, since I spent the first 32 years of my life in NC.
DYK it's definitely different for this area!

dyk my mom still has a pretty serious NY accent!

dyk we left in 1973!

dyk come to think of it, my dad does too.

dyk and my stepmom is pure Philly, even though she moved to FL as child and is now 60.

Dyk I don't know if I've ever met anyone from Delaware before.

Dyk Joy, I always forget you're not from NY.

Dyk actually, I don't think Deb is from Illinois either.

Dyk ok, who is not from the state they currently live in?

dyk I was born in NY

dyk moved to Florida at 5 (but still spent summers in NY until I was 11)

dyk moved to California at 18.

dyk I have now lived in CA longer than NY and FL combined.
