Dyk Jennie , your injury sounds exactly like the one I had a while back Dyk from what my myotherapist said I had Strained muscle that helps stabilize the knee cap and it was hurting as its way of telling me it couldn't handle the training I was doing yet and it needed a bit more time to adjust. Dyk accultunture and massage helped , Along with ice and rest. Dyk I had to have a few days off and then work at 60 percent of normal Dyk bike riding/ spin classes help strengthen it also Dyk injury is very annoying !

dyk, I'm not sure which timing device I prefer, they bithhave their pros & cons
dyk, B-Tags are good because I don't have to worry about them falling off...but I'm always paranoid that I'll bend one and it won't work (and I have bent them, but not enough to break them) - they do NOT Kay flat on me
dyk, D-Tags are good because for the most part I don't worry about bending it, once it's looped, it's good as long as it's not smashed, but I do worry about it falling off my shoe laces (even though it's pretty secure)
dyk, this is what hoes through my mind when I'm alone at a race start...my friend & her kids are eating breakfast

DYK I need to keep dreaming

dyk, if it's the outer side, it might actually be your IT band
dyk,if it's not the front (knee cap), you could try foam rolling it
dyk, rolling is supposed to be good for sore legs as well
dyk, after a run, it can help move/break up any lactic acid build up. At other times, it's like a REALLY good massage - if it's done right it hurts.
dyk, but in a good way...although sometimes even laying on the roller is painful
