dyk that china pattern is hideous
dyk it's getting hard to write --- now that I have a plot and character growth and morals and a spiritual bent -- it was just supposed to be a fun story about a pink snake
dyk geesh.
Pinkabi’s twin friends Cherry and Blossom were splashing in a puddle. “Do you two know about shedding your skin?” Pinkabi asked them. “I’m trying to make a plan for when I shed mine.”
Cherry wiggled her tail with excitement. “I know some,” she said.
“And I know what she doesn’t know,” Blossom said, “Pinkabi, what do you need to know?”
Cherry slithered in front of Blossom and looked at Pinkabi closely. “Your skin will get too small and feel tight.”
“Is your skin tight?” Blossom asked. “Because it will get tight.”
Cherry said, “Then it will lose its color.”
“And your skin will get flaky. Are you flaky?” Blossom asked.
Cherry and Blossom kept talking and asking questions even as Pinkabi slithered away.
Pinkabi slithered to the edge of the pond and looked at her reflection, thinking about what Cherry and Blossom had told her.
“Hi, Pinkabi,” her friend Carnation said as she slithered by. “What are you looking at?”
Pinkabi looked away from the pond and at her friend. “I was just thinking that my skin doesn’t look tight. And it doesn’t seem to be a different color either. Cherry and Blossom said that will happen before I shed my skin. ”
Carnation smiled. “It will. That happened to me, too. But, Pinkabi, you can’t rush it. You can’t make your skin shed just because you want it to. I tried and all I did was hurt my tummy from rubbing it too hard trying to make my skin shed.”
Pinkabi shook her head. “That doesn’t sound good.”
“It wasn’t. So you have to wait and let it happen naturally.”
Pinkabi slithered her way through the wildflowers thinking about all the things her friends had told her when she bumped into her friend Mauve.
“Mauve,” Pinkabi said. “Does my skin look tight to you?”
Mauve squinted at Pinkabi. “Why?” she asked as she looked at her skin. “Are you about to shed it?”
Pinkabi nodded. “I think so. And I’m kind of nervous. But, I’ve been talking to some friends and I think now I’m excited, too.
Mauve finished looking over Pinkabi. “Your skin does appear to be too small.”
Pinkabi smiled, very happy to hear that.
“Listen,” Mauve said. “When your skin begins to flake, you need to pay attention so that you can shed your skin the right way without getting too tired or taking too long. When it’s time to grow, you need to grow and your old skin has to come off.”
Pinkabi nodded seriously. “Ok, Mauve, I can do that,” she said.
