Helen Hunt Jackson- September Poem

The goldenrod is yellow,
The corn is turning brown,
The trees in apple orchards
With fruit are bending down;

The gentian’s bluest fringes
Are curling in the sun;
In dusty pods the milkweed
Its hidden silk has spun;

The sedges flaunt their harvest
In every meadow nook,
And asters by the brookside
Make asters in the brook;

From dewy lanes at morning
The grapes’ sweet odors rise;
At noon the roads all flutter
With yellow butterflies–

By all these lovely tokens
September days are here,
With summer’s best of weather
And autumn’s best of cheer.

dyk Sean and I do this thing when we're watching TV (out of the gutter people) where we try and figure out where we know the actors from

dyk Jean Smart is playing the hardass DA on Harry's Law and I could not place her ---

dyk she's the ex-wife on Bringing Down the House -- one of my favorite movies

Dyk glad to hear Eric is off to a good start in school! A good teacher makes all the difference.

Dyk I hope you and steve have fun on your date! A concert and picnic sound fun (and romantic)!

dyk glad Eric's teacher seems like a perfect fit. I'll bet you'll know mid-year whether or not he's making big progress and will transition well into 3rd grade.

dyk Well, for all the studying and watching, documenting about Abigail, we are still largely clueless about what to do with her. :-(

dyk She is just driving me insane -- our entire household.

dyk Already this morning she's done more strange, disruptive, unacceptable things (dumping cereal on the carpet, pouring apple juice on the ants, pulling the phone cord out of the wall, pestering Dek so he didn't get ready 4 school) than most kids do in a year.

and I totally snappedI was SO MEAN I told her that I didn't care what she wanted, what she thought, what she said, she was 7 she would do what she was told -- and she got a spanking (smacked on the butt with the hairbrush)

dyk each day I have tried to learn a little about bipolar -- in men and pediatric bipolar

dyk here is what I am reading about today -- pediatric bipolar disorder -- "mania"

dyk the RED portions are what we've been dealing with for NINE MONTHS NOW -- sometimes emerging OVER her medication, so I can't imagine where we'd be this mania go round without her meds

dyk and this is interesting too -- we haven't gone public with the bipolar stuff with Abi -- only a handful of family and close close friends have been looped in -- so I am talking about it here, lol

dyk it's not a secret -- I am just not ready for the questions yet and the "concern"

dyk so check this little tidbit out -- and the red is what we CURRENTLY as in the last year have a formal diagnosis of:

Diagnoses that mimic, mask, or co-occur with pediatric bipolar disorder include:

dyk I am actually a little embarassed that we haven't gone with full disclosure to our circles -- b/c we have always done so in the past to avopid stigma, rise above it, and to help other people

dyk and our constant talking about Abi and the issues and what we do well, what we do wrong, it has helped a lot of people -- and we've become a resource to other families and really built a supportive network that way

dyk I don't know why this is different

dyk Sean told our small group about starting his bipolar journey this past Sunday and I had a twinge of "oh no! I can't believe he shared that" but it was just a twinge. I was surprised he told them though.

dyk because he's not usually all "sharey"
