Does Weight Watchers work?
| Mon, 01-28-2013 - 9:06am |
I have been reading through diet information and it seems to be the conclusion is that dieting doesn't work. However, I have heard so many people say Weight Watchers helped them lose tons of weight. Why the discrepancies? Does it really work or not? Do you consider the progress you have made worth the money you have paid?
It didn't work for me. The only thing that has worked for me is counting calories, which really isn't dieting as I'm not restricting food, I'm just watching what I eat. I can have that piece of cake if I want it. I just have to make sure I have 'room' for it. Plus, it teaches me HOW to eat without having to tally points. That was what was frustrating with WW. A lot of the places we'd go didn't have points listed and I wasn't going to sit there and figure it out. Their apps are not complete just yet either. (I did it last year for a few months.)
I do enjoy their magazine though.
Hi Catthee and welcome to the board. It can work for you if you are diligent about following ALL the guidelines.
Are you getting 2 dairy a day, 5 servings fruit and vegetables, drinking water, exercising etc. The best advice is
join for a month and ask lots of questions and find a meeting that suits you, if you live in an area where they have more choice of locations.

Olivia, how do you color your font? I can't figure how to do it on these new boards.

I followed ALL the guidelines and it still didn't work for me. But that's the thing, you need to find one that works for you. I lost 65 pounds in 6½ months just from counting calories and exercising/walking daily. I didn't have to pay anyone and other than watching portions and calories, I didn't restrict my diet of foods. :)
I do have friends who have done well with WW. But for me, it didn't work.
The color: I do it in the disable rich-text section using code. :)
I agree that dieting doesn't work. In order to lose weight and keep it off, you have to change your lifestyle. I'm not a fan of the WW program, mostly because of the celebrity endorsements (nobody will ever convince me that Mariah Carey lost the weight on WW) and because it's a program you have to pay for. I feel like a lot of these weight loss programs take advantage of people. I suppose at least WW teaches you how to adjust your lifestyle, which a lot of programs don't do. I think there are better alternatives, though. I really like the food journal on My Fitness Pal. They even have an app to let you log your food, water intake, and exercise minutes.
