A beautiful Monday Morning

The sun was a blood red/pink this morning through the haze...just gorgeous.  I had an extremely productive weekend, getting SO MUCH done, I felt like my husband.  :P  A ton of work administration, and a HUGE effort on divorce paperwork.  My ex's lawyer is going back to court today to ask for more money from me.  :(  I can't be there because I have to work with my manager for the next two days.  I decided not to sweat it anymore, and to always try to find something good in him.  My work partner wants me to be mean, but that's just not who I am.  We also got a vanity picked out for the downstairs bathroom, so dh is in the process of spackling, painting, and refitting all of the hardware.

It was a lovely weekend.  So this week, I have a TON of training to do for my meeting next week, and to add onto that pile, I am visiting my mom this weekend so we can sit down with her lawyers and talk about papers to sign.  This is bittersweet, but at the same time, I am feeling blessed to be a trusted resource for her.  There are so many con-men out there and people that take advantage of the elderly.

Isn't Jean in sunny CA?  GR, what fun adventures are on the agenda this week?  Karla, how does it feel to be planning for a marathon AND the new school year?!  SJ, how was your consutlling interview, and did you decide to share/not share your blog with your family?  EL, is it biking or swimming today, and how is that weather in CA?

Life is good.  Make it a great day, everyone!

Good morning all. Fresh, you are so right about all the scams on the elderly. My mother gets calls and letters frequently from scammers. She almost was victim to an electric bill scam when she got a call one day that her service was going to be cut off and she needed to pay with a credit card immediately. I just happened to have walked in while she was digging through her purse for her credit card and was able to stop anything from happening. Ugg

I had a very busy weekend. First, I met with marathon coaches who gave me some great advice. They said my training was right on target for an October marathon. They stressed the importance of training properly, nutrition, and equipment-specifically my shoes and socks. My nutrition questions were answered and I was told to eat whether I was hungry or not to make sure I take in enough carbs. That is completely foreign to my typical way of life so I am trying to adjust. I was fitted for shoes and told I'm wearing my shoes too big. I was also taught a different way to lace my shoes and told I must tie them tighter. I was very nervous about that but wore my new shoes and socks for a 15 mile run yesterday and was very happy with the results. I did have a few blisters but they were in spots where I had blisters before I started-nothing new. They may have solved a problem that I have been dealing with for almost 20 years now. I think that honestly my feet are the biggest issue I am going to have with running a marathon. If I can get my feet healed, I am pretty sure I can go the distance.

That being said, I did a 15 mile run yesterday (took 2 hours 34 minutes which is about 10:15 a mile) then walked 1 mile to let my legs and body settled down. I practiced with some GU gels and realized that being and staying fueled up made all of the difference in how I felt after the run. I am a little sore today all over but nothing horrible. I am scheduled for a 4 mile recovery run today and will be taking off soon because it's supposed to be very hot later today. I am very nervous about these high mileage runs and my first 20 mile run will be around labor day. Sheesh-I can't believe that. I just can't believe I am seriously training for a marathon.

What is everyone else up to today?

FSN, good for you for trying to stay positive with the ex.

Karla, so impressive on the mileage.  I could probably learn a thing or two from you about the shoes.  My feet are always such a problem with long distances.

It was sort of a bittersweet weekend.  OP and I had some really nice times together but we got the news on Saturday that a good friends of ours was in the hospital.  There was speculation about whether he was attacked or self-harmed.  It's been determined that it was self harm.  So, that has been super stressful and upsetting.  Intellectually, I know that bad things happen but I realize I carry around this silly assumption that people in my world are "safe."  *sigh*  Best friend has organied a fundraiser and has raised a significant amount of money to help him with his bills when he gets out.  I am in talks with his closest friends about taking him in when he's released since there's a lot of trauma to his body.  Heavy stuff...

My girlfriend's birthday party is tonight so as much as I'd rather sit on the couch and stare at the wall, we're going to go.  I may go stay with best friend for a few days because she's quite distraught and her boyfriend is out of town until Thursday.  We went to a concert last night and while it was sad in some ways, it was helpful in others.  We probably looked bipolar to the people around us because one minute we're giggling hysterically and the next we're holding hands and crying.

I did cardio this morning and am headed out before long to go see my client, get a massage and then meet with the podiatrist.  Having lots of pain in my knees and back and I really think my orthotics aren't right.  As far as the rest of the week, I have a doc appointment on Thursday and then a friend is taking me out to lunch (she missed my birthday happy hour).  This weekend, best friend and I have two concerts on the far west side of town so we decided to make a staycation out of it - we booked a hotel room and are going to have ourselves a little getaway.  Which... after this weekend, I think we are going to desperately need.

Hi ladies. IVillage wouldn't let me post last week...but I am trying again...GR, so sorry about your friend...it sounds like he might need mental as well as physical care? That is so hard to work through. FSN, I cannot believe you still have to deal with your ex (I believe you, of course! but the situation seems really wrong to me). There must be an end in sight....I hope so. Karla, congrats on 1000 miles. I think it is just 'your time' for a marathon. I have been busy with my volunteer project,..we had a yard sale Friday that raised enough money to fix two doors and as important, got rid of a ton of stuff that was borderline 'junk'. We sold all of the shutters, most to a sweet guy who will resell them at flea markets, and we gave away for 'donations' at least ten wire plant stands. I've been to the gym on my regular schedule, but I am not feeling great. I googled my symptoms and I think I might have an ulcer. If I keep food in my stomach, I feel ok, but as soon as I start to feel hungry, I am in pain. I have an appointment with my doctor on Aug 14 and I am holding out until then...I hope. I Hope I won't have to have a lot of tests because I begrudge the time...I had a good meeting about the consulting but haven't heard anything. I've already spent the money in my head...and I haven't shared my blog with my family yet, but I still could. I think we are all going to upload pictures to the same place, but we haven't chosen it yet...and I suspect that everyone was a little jet lagged last week...and they all had to work...
