Getting back into the swing of things Monday

I talk about my gym membership all the time--the new gym that opened last year and I only pay $28/mo but I never go.  I've decided I have to make a decision this week to either go or drop the membership because I'm paying for nothing and it adds up.  This morning I'm trying a tabata class. Despite skiing all season, or probably because of skiing, I'm feeling super out of shape. I need to get back into shape again.  Plus, during the season, I was so busy I didn't have a chance to eat. Now I have to deal w/ being home and the munchies.

What do you all do for the munchies?  Midafternoon is the worst for me!

Munchies?  Last night, I ate potato chips.  :P   When I am feeling healthy, I peel and cut an asian pear, and put a couple toothpicks in them to share with everyone around me.  They are crunchy, juicy, sweet...sometimes I add one of those small bella cheese thingys.  I have also been making green tea frappacinos (macha powder, vanilla almond milk, ice, stevia, and a bit of sugar) for a pick-me-up.  I need to get some vanilla protein powder to add to it, too.

I work with my manager for the next two days.  I am hopeful that he will be pleasant.  He has a cutting edge because his ADD/nervousness gets him annoyed at times...a bit passive aggressive at times.  I think I will try to project compassion towards him, and see if that makes a difference.

I am back into the yoga-swing.  Three intense yoga classes this weekend, and, now, I only feel slightly sore, so I think I am back to being "in yoga shape."  It's annoying how quickly I can lose the muscle ability!  Perhaps it's also a function of my hormones.  I feel much better with HRT!!!

Life is grand.  Jean, great post on the life truths!  I am dreaming of living in the northwest with a view of the whales in my backyard...Sequim or San Juan Islands in WA?  I am trying to convince dh of investigating this area.  I LOVE zillow!  I would miss the sun in the winter, though, so we might have to find a small place for the winter.

Jean, isn't it funny how we waffle on things and then suddenly, we cross a threshold (somewhere, about something) and decide we HAVE to make a decision...?

FSN, glad to hear that the HRT is helping.  I truly think that being a "good patient" sometimes means not listening to your doctor.

Karla, in regards to what you posted over the weekend about the fatigue on long run days, are you making up those calories?  You might want to do a spot check of your macros for a couple of days.  You could be low on carbs.

I did not have an awesome weekend.  Friday morning, in the middle of my workout, I started to feel very strange and on the verge of throwing up.  And then I threw up.  Vomiting is a very rare occurance for me and I do everything I can to avoid it.  I was super shaky for the rest of the morning.  We were supposed to go out to dinner Friday night, but after I showered, I just didn't have the energy to do the rest of it.  We decided to go out for lunch Saturday to "make up" for the missed Friday night dinner, but we got about 5 miles from the house and had to come home because I was feeling pukey again.  It was yucky all the way around.  No vomiting yesterday and fingers crossed for today.

The good news is that after my little incident Friday morning, I went to my ENT appointment.  He stuck long scary things up my nose and determined pretty definitively that I DO NOT CURRENTLY HAVE A SINUS INFECTION.  Kiss  Wonder of all wonders.  It appears that the regimen he has me on is working (I do a regular nasal wash and then a second one with a solution of saline, antibiotics and steroids).  He also cleaned out my nose which felt nice but gave me a right headache.  So... no surgery for now.  He wants me to keep this up and come back and see him in two months.

I'm working this morning, seeing my client at my house and I have to go out this afternoon to get refills on my nasal stuff plus get my allergy shot.  I was kind of hoping to have today to just stay at home but it is not working out.  I'm a little bit nervous about working out since that's when I started to feel poorly Friday but I'm just going to do moderate cardio.

FSN,  what is yoga swing? Is it like aerial yoga?  Have you watched House Hunters or House Hunters International? I love seeing what you can get in different areas.

GR, I've been putting off this decision for so long on the gym, after summer, after ski season, etc. It just occured to me that I've wasted close to $500 on this membership the past 1 1/2 so years. Did you figure out what it was that caused your sickness?  Glad to hear it's gone away. Good thoughts on the post run carbs for Karla. It's so important, immediately after long runs.  Equally, what about fueling during the run, Karla?

I have been trying to post all morning but have been dealing with power outages. It seems like every time I get something typed out the power goes off. We heard a loud explosion earlier when lightning hit something and it must have got something big because my house shook so bad we thought we had taken a direct hit. Right away my son and daughter called and they thought they got hit too so it had to have been something near all of our homes. In the meantime the power has been going off and on.

Fresh-I am envious of your yoga. I would love to be able to do a class 3 times  week.

Jean, I try not to keep anything snacky like chips and crackers in the house because my husband and daughter will eat nothing but snacks if we have them. I keep try to keep fruit and protein bars on hand for when I need something extra.

Gym, my sister and I were discussing this and are are going to add more carbs to our diets. She is experiencing the same tiredness only worse right now.  She is dealing with a newborn grandson who lives with her (long story but her daughter works night shift and baby's father is not in the picture any longer) so we weren't sure if it's lack of carbs or stress. Jean, I haven't actually gotten to the point where I thought I needed to fuel up during a run but maybe it is something I need to consider. I'm getting close to 1.5 hours now at my longest  and about 2-3 hours after my run now I feel like I am carrying around lead weights. I ate some rice and veggies right after my run yesterday (80 minutes) and it wasn't nearly as bad as it was the week before so I did wonder if it was the food that made a difference or the shorter run time.

It's looking like the tread for me today for a light recovery run. That is if the gym has power. lol

Hope you don't lose power. For anything over 1 1/2 hours, since you're getting close, you want to refuel w/ something about 45-60 minutes, either gel or gatorade or something like that. Immediately after running, replenish w/ carbs/protein in a 2:1 ratio, up to 40 grams carbs, 20 grams protein.  I prefer real food over a protein shake or bar but eating w/in half an hour is helpful.

I need to stock up on healthier foods for snacks. I don't buy junk but my husband does. What's hard for me is that it's nonstop munchies. Even though I'm eating healthy foods, it's still a lot. I need an afternoon activity to get me out of the house!

GR, you aren't pregnant are you? If life were a soap opera, you wouldbe...feel better! Karla, glad you weren't hit by lightening...Jean, I think you should cancel the gym and put the money towards a workout room..FSN Seattle is beautiful, but not sunny.  .I have no answers for the snacking...even when I don't buy snack food, I eat at night....that is the biggest thing I need to work on next week...when I am retired!  Four days to go!   I had a great gym day today...Pilates, 12 minute bike warmup, lifting for chest/back, ran 1.5 miles in 20:40.

No, no, no... not pregnant.  Unless it's an immaculate conception of some sort.  Wink

I tried to post that that might be a fate worst than death for you as happily child-free as you are!  I don't know what happened to the post, though.  This was a riot:
