It got cold and rainy here.  Yuck.  I just learned that my cousin did not get good news on the cancer he is fighting.  I spared my mom the news several months ago in hopes that he would fight it.  I am not sure how to tell her...perhaps I will leave that for my brother.  My brother is not taking it well...this cousin is like the brother he never had.  :(  And the woman I teach linedancing to just "lost" her MIL unexpectedly.  Conclusion - life is fragile, enjoy each day!!!

GR, yuck on the swollen eye!  Although never so severe, I have early spring itchy eye allergies.  I tried about four different eye drops/pills, and the only thing that worked for me was ibuprofen...but your issue is much more severe than mine.  Karla, you are an inspiration for running and going forward with everything you have going on!!!  My dh uses "NuSkin" on blisters after they form, he uses body glide and/or vaseline to prevent them.  Jean, do you tape your hands when doing silks?  And I would be terrified of most parkour stunts, as I even find that I am tripping on things while walking.  :O  SJ, I think it is wonderful that there are still courteous people out there that offer you there seat!  And just keep going forward...you are so conscientious about what you eat and about working out...you still sound healthy to me!  Oh, and Karla, I think that I might be gripping" my trapezius muscle and/or hunching over more, due to stress, which is giving me major pain.  My knee pain is from where those dang cowboy boots (with no support and orthotic) while dancing...it's hard wear and tear on the knees...good thing my linedance friends are busy this week so that my knees get a break.

Lots of work today, and I don't like the classes at the gym tonight, so I don't know what I will do tonight...more work?  organize to pack?  dogtraining?  paint?  I think painting sounds relaxing.  Ooohhh.  I need a mani/pedi since I have a major work event with a social hour/event I have to go to in the evening.  Never a dull moment!

Sorry to hear about your cousin.  Does he live near you?

Is is very common for us to hold our stress in our upper traps, plus our lifestyle (driving, sitting, textint) leads us to scrunch forward which further tightens them.  This is a good test for it, although it's pretty easy to see the forward tilt of the head, rounded shoulders.  There are exercises to help with it.

I'm going to parkour today.  No, I don't tape but I did make gymnastics wraps for my hands.  When I was doing it more, I had calluses that protected them but I haven't done it in a while. I also bought some of that climbers balm which has made a big difference.  I still have to plan summer vacation and am losing energy for it. There are too many things to plan around, my husband switched jobs so he might not be able to join us on all of it but he won't tell me which parts he wants to do.  I really want to go see my parents, though.  They're getting older and more tired these days.

This particular cousin is in Seattle.  He is the responsible, wise cousin that we all look up to.

Regarding that test, I have the flexibility to have my arms back, but to have no space behind my back (no arch), I really have to engage my lower core.  Does that mean I should be engaging my lower core at all times, especially when driving?!  I DO find that if I engage my upper back so that I feel like I am pushing my chest forward, it feels GOOD so that I don't have the strain.

Jean, are your parents far away?  Somehow, I missed that from previous posts.  What kinds of activities are you thinking about for the summer?

I really try to engage my core when driving like I'm diong a crunch. I challenge myself to see how long I can hold it.  At red lights, I pull my shoulder blades back and down.  I'm not sure if it's helping but it seems like it should since it's the muscles that are usually weakest.

My parents are in the bay area, CA.

Jean, I'm a little sore from the new workout in my elbow and abs. lol I am going to do a very easy 6 mile run today so I can just relax and not work sore parts. All my family is now gone and it is going to rain later so I am going to do some exercise then clean my house.

Fresh, my daughter wore cowboy boots to walk around a car show for hours with her cousins. Now her feet and legs are sore and she has blisters (surprise!). I warned her not to wear them like that all day but she insisted on making a fashion statement. I could never go dancing in cowboy boots. I can't imagine what my legs would feel like the next day.

SJ, I'm currently having an age crisis and I'd probably bawl if someone offered me their seat on the bus. LOL

Gym, what meds are you taking that could cause the eye thing? Is that a known side affect?

I can't find a sunscreen to last for my entire long run anymore so I'm really getting dark on certain parts and I don't like it. I have enough skin damage from tanning as it is. I've tried several different sport potions but nothing is helping. What do you girls use for sunscreen?

Wednesday.  Oy.

Last night I, as my Aussie friend would say, "lost the plot."  My chin is now swollen and I look like the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Kel. Cry  I had a full on temper tantrum in my bathroom with DH.  I'm just so tired of fighting health issues and now I'm too embarassed to go out.  I cancelled work today and I was supposed to go to writer meeting tonight but I don't think I'll be going.

The blood work I had done yesterday is checking my thyroid (along with multiple other things).  I did some research on hypothyroid and wow, it really matches up with how I'm feeling.  I've had a feeling all along that this swelling thing was systemic (and also because I've just felt "off") and this would make sense. I'm hoping I hear back from the doc today.

Karla, did the workout all make sense? LOL, I'm glad it worked for you. It's hard to challenge someone as fit as you are. I do love that you do an "easy 6 mile" run for recovery.

GR, that swelling sounds terrible. You deserve to be moody for it. Is it just appearance or does it feel awful?

I had another breakthrough day at parkour today. This instructor is older (though younger than I am!) and so patient. He was able to get a lof of us to push through.  I'm so excited!

Jean, the workout made sense but I had to watch some of the videos several times. At around our 5th round my sister says "My gosh we should have gone on a long run. " lol Congrats on the Parkour breakthrough. The more I watch Parkour videos the more I am convinced I'd break my neck.

GR, I have some cousins with thyroid problems. I certainly hope that isn't what you are dealing with.

The swelling doesn't hurt.  I don't have any pain and that's partly why I think this is a systemic issue.  I don't particularly want a thyroid disorder but it would explain so, so much.

Obvious question is whether you've had your thyroid tested but I've also heard that by the time the test gives abnormal results, you've had it for a while.

GR, I am so sorry you are dealing with a new ailment. I hope this round of tests finds an underlying cause. It seems like you immune system is really compromised. Jean, glad you had a breakthrough Parkour session. I have to plug Cape Cod as a vacation destination...beautiful beaches, great restaurants, bike trails....very fun! FSN, it is like March in Seattle here...I could have used gloves today. The lifeguards at the pool (guarding no one!) are wearing winter coats....but you will soon be learning to hula...Karla, glad you survived Jean's workout....I planned to make zuchini lasagna tonight, but when I sliced the green vegetables, they had too many seeds so I looked at the register receipt...cucumbers. I hate Whole Foods...the zuchini, summer squash and cucumbers are next to each other, and there is always someone refilling something in that area...I guess I grabbed the wrong green vegetable...I thought about trying it anyway but am making baked ziti instead...I made a salad with cucumber and onion, but I have a lot of cucumber left...and I will probably end up throwing it away because I am not crazy about cucumber...fresh from the garden is good but store bought is not that great...culinary adventures....I went to the gym - 11 minute bike warmup, lifting for legs, abs, and 14 painful minutes on the stairs.
