Weekend Journal

It's Saturday, and I committed to coming up with 3 things that I am grateful for for 30 days, soI will continue to post on the weekends.  Today is my rest day since I did two advanced yoga classes in the past two days, and I am so SORE!  I sent DH to my own IM doc, since he has been sick for 10+ days, now.  We just learned that the cousin that he visited in FL was hospitalized with some GI virus, so I am somewhat worried that he may also have it.  :O  This afternoon, I go to one of those BYOB painting parties, followed by dinner with a girlfriend.  DH and my girlfriend's DH were supposed to meet us after, but since my guy is sick, it will just be the girls.

Today, I am grateful that I get so much pleasure from art (and that I make the time for it), new friends (the woman I am going with is a new friend), and modern medicine (I started back on HRT yesterday and I already feel better!)

It's awesome to see people who've decided to make changes in their lives.  I've seen quite a few people lose weight at the gym and have had some clients do the same. I think the parkour is such a huge jump. I can't even get my fit friends to try it with me!

Yum, your dinner sounds delicious!

Oh yay, nice to see someone else here on the weekend. I usually drop by to see if anyone else has stopped by. Fresh, I took a rest day on Saturday as well to help clean the garage and do a few other chores. We managed to get everything done without any shouting so I consider it a success.

Jean, we have several very obese people now working out at the gym. I talk to one of the heavier ladies and she said she was intimidated and scared to start, but after realizing how friendly everyone is, she feels motivated and looks very forward to seeing us "regulars" every day. She knows if she misses too many days in a row someone is going to check on her and she loves it. I never really paid attention to obese people before, but after meeting and talking to her I realize that she faces great physical challenges every time she steps foot in the gym.

I ran 8 miles with my sister this morning. I was ready to go to 9 but decided to just end it there. While I feel pretty good right after my runs, I am experiencing fatigue later in the day on the longer runs. I am pretty sure it's all a matter of conditioning so I am just going to keep plodding along and increasing ever so little. I don't remember dealing with all over tiredness like this in my younger years when I ran so I don't know if it is age related or just that my life is totally different (busier).

It is cool but sunny here today and I have chicken parboiling because I am about to slather it with bbq sauce and throw it on the grill. Sweet potatoes are in the oven baking and I think I am going to chop up some squash and throw it on the grill too.

How did we get out of the habit of doing a weekend journal?  We used to do it regularly. I did aerial silks and parkour yesterday. As much as I'm sad that ski season is over, I'm glad to get back to the parkour gym.  Right now, it's an old warehouse, run down, grungy. I love the atmosphere because it eliminates those looking for a pristine gym and brings in a crowd of non-stepfords.  Sadly, they're moving locations and the new gym is huge. They're in process of setting it up but I'm afraid it's going to become one of those gyms.  They have a dedicated room for silks and the ceilings are so tall! It's going to be scary!

This is really awesome--there was a woman who brought her son in to parkour and she would watch during the over 35 class. She's morbidly obese and couldn't get up the stairs to the watching area easily.  The past couple of months, she's been coming to the class. I'm so happy for her because doing a class like that is intimidating enough for someone like me who works out all the time.  But, she's been coming consistently. I think it's perfect because this is such a non-judgemental area vs what you get in some gyms. We all do what we can do but none of us can do the stuff the young guys do.

It's Sunday, and I plan on finishing the laundry, cleaning the kitchen, finishing my expense report, going to yoga, doing my nails, looking at the taxes (bleagch!), and preparing for work with my manager for the next two days.

I am grateful for my comfort at meeting new people, my husband's ability to let me do what I want to do (and I suppose I taught him to accept me this way, too), and the serenity of a peaceful sunrise.  :D  I am wishing everyone love from their families today.
