OMG, it's supposed to drop into the 40s today?!  I had the a/c on yesterday because it was SO HOT.  I am lucky that I chose to paint last night instead of planting my six container pots.  I bought all of the plants for them, and had the intention of planting them after I painted, but my painting took longer than expected.  Yea...my manager cancelled working with me yesterday and today.  Woohoo...stress free with no negative criticism.

I just remembered that I have Part 2 in a series of Alzheimer's meetings tonight.  We learn about the latest science about dementia tonight.  Since I have a genetic predisposition for it, this should be good for me.  Karla, what are you doing to workout since you are nursing your injury/sprain?  Be careful!  I used to wear an ankle brace that helped stabilitize my ankle because I kept reinjuring it.  Jean, any new aerial silks movements?  That looks like fun.  SJ, how much do you pack for France?  My daughter and I pack a HUGE suitcase  which I hate transporting.  GR, take it easy...recovering from pneumonia takes a LONG TIME!!!  I remember going back to work to soon, and pulling off to the side of the road to rest because driving was too strenuous!

Yoga, work, after work meeting.  That's my day.  What are you all up to?

It's supposed to be beautiful today and I have nothing planned but a massage.  My body needs this.  So, how much do you all tip for a massage?  At Massage Envy, they recommend $20.  IMO, if I got a massage elsewhere, it would cost me $70-80 so 20% is $15.  I do base it on the therapist, like the last time he squeezed me in because mine didn't show up.  At the same time, I also think that if a massage therapist is more than 30 minutes late, they should give me some kind of discount.  This whole tipping thing is hard to figure out, too. I don't tip a physical therapist. I don't get tipped as a personal trainer, though I have gotten gifts if the client is a regular (completely not expected from me).  I rarely am tipped as a ski instructor but have been told that's a regional thing. This year was unusual in the number of tips I receive, though, and I do appreciate it. I see tip jars at fro-yo places where you get your own yogurt and top it and all the person does is take your money.  Oh, a big one I just read about is tipping at a hosted bar. I'm so used to tipping at bars that I tip when it's hosted, too, and that's an etiquette faux pas since the host is tipping and would be mortified if guests were paying for their event.  Hmmm.  I can't get it right!

FSN, yeah, I'm starting to get how long pneumonia recovery actually takes.  Have I mentioned that I'm not the most patient person?

Jean, I hate the tipping thing too.  I like how they don't tip in Europe.  At Massage Envy, when I get a 90 minute massage, I usually tip her about $22.

I slept well although I'm having trouble sleeping through the night for some reason.  Not a lot planned today.  I don't have much in the way of work or anything else so that's probably a good thing.  I will probably do another workout.

Hhhhmmmm.  I have been tipping about 20% for my massages.  My therapist rents a small room in a building with other contractors for hair and whatever else (I don't know what is in the other rooms.  I am down for every other week, and, knock on wood, I am knot-free for the past few months.  Now, when I go to her, she is working into my neck, as opposed to before, she ONLY worked on my shoulder blades and when doing so, she couldn't get all of the knots out.  :P  Ok, am I supposed to tip her extra on the holiday?

I would love to go to a non-tipping world!  I tipped $18 because it was all the cash I had. I was thinking I should go to a 90 minute massage because I feel like I get a deep treatment some muscles but it's superficial elsewhere because of time.  Funny, I have all these bruises I didn't know about that he pointed out to me, to see if they hurt or not.  You think it would have hurt when I got them!

Is insomnia typical for you? I know you've had problems recently and thought it was perimenopausal?  I've had it for years but started sleeping better about a year ago, though I do have bouts. Right now, it's pain related--my shoulder and ankle really bother me at night. I should go see a physical therapist.

I have abs. I can feel each muscle in my abs today very clearly. I've take up some of my old workouts this week since I'm not running (trying to heal my leg injury) and obviously I have been neglecting my abs because I am definitely feeling them today. In fact, my whole core is telling me to just go running.  lol

Fresh, it is weirdly hot and humid here today. Way too hot for this time of year. We are expecting storms and this is not a good sign. It is supposed to drop to the 40s by tomorrow here too.

Gym, it took me weeks and weeks to recover from pneumonia. You have to really take it easy and get plenty of rest or you might find yourself back sliding.

Jean, I did your tabata workout last night. Sheesh, I think I know why I like running so much now. It's easier. lol

I got a wax for my waxburner called orange buttercream cupcake and it smells absolutely wonderful. My family describes it as smelling like fruity pebbles. It really is a pick me up kind of scent.

FSN, I started studying French in seventh grade, and that included learning about Paris. At that point in my life, the chances that I would ever actually go to Paris seemed minuscule...and I think it was always this magical place...and when I finally got there in my 40's, it was exactly what I expected...beautiful gardens, old buildings, incredible churches, sidewalk cafés...we also went to Normandy, and the enormity of the WWII occupation and liberation was overwhelmingly touching.. This trip, we are going to Normandy, Paris, and Verdun and the goal is to travel light. This is easier in the summer than winter, but it always travel pretty light. I will bring a couple pairs of black pants, a black skirt, a couple little dresses, and then tops that can layer. I usually bring everything not black in one color - usually purple or blue, so it all works together. I will wear a fleece jacket on the plane and pack something a little dressier. I wear the heaviest pair of shoes - sneakers or maybe running shoes, and bring another pair that are dressier and go with everything, but still comfortable. We will do laundry half way through, but I have washed underwear in the sink too. I will bring a pair of black shorts and probably a swim suit.

Karla, if you'd like a new workout, I'd be happy to put one together for you!  I did that tabata one years ago.  Let me know what equipment you have and how much time.

I talked to someone who thought this was gross but when we went to Costa Rica, I brought along fabric Febreze and we sprayed our clothes at night so we could get a couple of days out of them. We did laundry halfway through the trip.  And, it was only outer layers of clothes, not underwear.  Someone once said they'd save old underwear to bring on vacations and then toss them when they showered. It seemed like a good idea.  I'll often do socks and underwear in the sink but I normally overload on those.

I went to France right out of college and would love to go back to visit. There are just too many nice places in the world.

My cousin had a very finicky and demanding roommate back in the day. She (my cousin) almost killed us one night when she recounted the story of the roommate and her boyfriend packing for a trip...seemed he had plenty of room in his suitcase because for 8 days he packed 4 sets of underwear...and wore them inside out the second day...we laughed so hard we cried...and laughed even more when she married the guy...he came with her to a funeral one time and we all poked each other knowingly and mouthed 'inside out underwear'...hopefully, she was able to change one thing about him.

It was 50 today after being 88 yesterday...my younger brother is getting married on Sunday...the ceremony is planned for outside...I hope it is either nice and warm or pouring...I am struggling with the wedding as it is way more extravagant than they can afford, and they are late 30's/early 40's and the whole thing seems unnecessary to me. He is the one who wants the big wedding, but he is borrowing money go pay for it...which I think is crazy. When I was working, I felt very comfortable being generous/extravagant with gifts but I can tell that having no money coming in (planned) makes me feel more cautious about spending. They registered for stuff, but for so much that I was really out off by the whole thing. I am old school...you should register for china, silver, and Chrystal so people know your pattern, but after that, I think you should take what you get...the registry they have seems in really poor taste to me, plus has a lot of useless things (like a bunch of vases) on it. It feels like they walked through the store saying 'that's nice, that's nice' with no selectivity. I was going to give them money, but I feel like they will do something stupid with it....I talked to my trainer last night and he pointed out that no matter what I thought, they wanted the things on their registry...so I bought them a mirror. My sister in law, who is normally very sweet, says the theme of the wedding is narcissism so a mirror seemed to go with the theme....I wish I were happier about this...but in reality, I will just be glad when it is done....I am just very practical...anyway, expect much ranting from me this week! Jean, I tip $20 at massage envy...the other place I go for massage is @ $100, and the therapists work s the same at both places...i give my personal trainer a cash gift at Christmas and on the 'anniversary' of when I started working with him. I also write him a note to thank him for the support in the past year. And of course I cook for him, so maybe that is tipping with food....Karla, FSN, my next big birthday is 60, but 50 was really special. I love love love my fifties, for me the best decade as far as happiness goes. I think I have found the confidence to do what I want and the wisdom to have some idea what that is. GR, rest as much as you need to! I went to the gym, swam 50 laps, then lifted for legs, did some abs....
